His words from the
USS SLC Reunion Book, 1991

I joined regular navy for six years in 1940, then reported aboard the USS Salt Lake City at Mare Island Navy Yard, CA. in Jan. of 1941. I left the ship in April 1944 to serve on a new destroyer USS Rowe(DD564), then completed my six year enlistment aboard a heavy cruiser USS Baltimore with the occupation forces in Japan. I then joined the navy reserves.

After many ships and a total of 28 years of service I retired in 1968. The most memorable will always be our "QUEEN" the USS SALT LAKE CITY CA25. Thank you for letting me represent our great association as your president for 1990 and 1991. Fran & I will truly enjoy this Honor for the rest of our lives.

He was a cousin to SLC Veterans, Pat & Vito Monteleone
