U.S.S. SLC...USN...Oscar Y. "Dude" Henson, GM3c
Oscar Y. Henson passed away in 1977. Information from daughter Chris Kahr
July 2nd, 2013
Hello, Sandra,
My name is Christine A. Kahr. My maiden name was Christine Ann Henson. I am the daughter of Oscar "Y" Henson, a Gunners Mate on the USS Salt Lake City during WW II.
In the last few days, some friends and I did an Internet search and ran across the photo referenced above. From the copy of the photo on my iPad, I was unsure. However I dug out an old box belonging to my parents with many photos from the Navy. Unfortunately the photos are rarely labelled with names or dates. My mother was Henrietta Dorothy Lash and she was a WAVE during WWII also. So I often cannot even tell if some of the unlabelled photos are from my mother's group or my father's ... unless, of course, one or the other of them is actually in the photo.
When I returned home today, I went through the box and found an "original" of the photo labelled above. From this original, I am sure my father is #9 using the numbering system shown at your website. My father's copy of the photos actually has numbers on it also, starting with number 1 at the top . It doesn't really matter since there is no accompanying list of names.
Oscar "Y" Henson went by the nickname of "Dude". He was born in Texas and apparently soon acquired the nickname after joining the Navy. He was born in 1920. Deceased 1977.
