USS SLC Officer...W. M. Patrick, Ch. Gun
William Patrick passed away in 1997 at the age 92
Dec. 17th, 1999
My name is Bill, son of William M. Patrick, chief turret captain, who
served on the USS Salt Lake City from 1929 to 1942.
William enlisted in the Navy as a Apprentice Seaman 21 July 1926 at the age of
21. He also served on the USS Mercy & the USS Antares.
The USS SLC was his life for 13 years until 1943. With the ship in for its
overhaul, he was reassigned to San Diego as a gunner instructor for a
year then shipped out on the USS Intripid aircraft carrier til the
end of the war, called back for the Korean War in 1949 and was stationed
back in San Diego as gunner instructor. Retired in 1954 with 30 years
service.
He was a West Virginia wittler and has carved a 3 ft. model of the ship
in remarkable detail that he had taken to several reunions.
Thanks
William C. Patrick
