USS SLC...Enlisted Navy...Cash W. Shaw, CWT
Cash W. Shaw passed away on Sept. 4th, 1970
Sept. 10th, 2003
Hi Sandy!
My wife's great uncle was Cash W. Shaw, a CWT on the SLC. We have tried to
get his files from the Navy archives but without his service number, we are
not having much luck. We were wondering if you may have that type of info in
the deck logs?
He was a career Navy man, having enlisted in about 1915 and retiring in
1945-1946, not sure. He worked another 20 years in the steam heat plant at
Georgia Tech in Atlanta and passed away September 4th, 1970.
He was a plank holder on the SLC as a WT1c. He transferred off in 1931 but transferred back in 1935 and stayed aboard until July 1943.
We are hoping you may have some information from the deck logs to help us
reconstruct his final 2 years of service.
The records show him leaving the SLC on July 2, 1943 in Adak, Alaska. He
then spent four months in naval hospitals in Seattle & San Diego before
being assigned to permanent shore patrol in San Diego.
My father recalls he was injured in attack which could have been the
Komandorskie battle, but that was in March. If you can shed any light from
the ships records, I would appreciate it.
Thanks
If anyone else has information on Uncle Cash, please ask Sandy Eskew for our address
Thanks for all of your hard work.
