Hoyt was "one" of the passengers of seventy-five officers and one thousand enlisted men that boarded the SLC when she made a flying trip to San Francisco, CA. from October 1st to 14th, 1943, just before the participation in the forthcoming invasion of the Gilbert Islands.

Hoyt W. was born May 20th, 1924 in Konawa, OK. He worked as a truck driver in the Oil Field business most all his life. He & his wife, Alma M. Sharp Thompson were born, raised & married in Konawa, OK., then moved to Holdenville, OK. and then to Cushing, OK. Hoyt & Alma raised 1 son & 2 daughters.

The summer of 1987 was filled with my mom & him coming to Grand Lake O' the Cherokees at Grove, OK. where my family & I live.

They made 9 trips in 5 months to visit because they really enjoyed the area. We had my dad's 63rd birthday celebration (May 20th, 1987) there at the resort by having a huge BBQ and inviting friends and family. He had a great time.

Most of the time you could find him "fishing" off the docks at the resort. He would put his bait on, cast it out, get comfortable in his lawn recliner, pull his cap down over his eyes, and tell the fish to leave his hook alone so he could take a nap. ; ) We had some great visits during that time and I will cherish them always.
