The Second Watch is a group made up of representatives of the next generation; sons, daughters, step-sons, step-daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, nephews and nieces. It was founded as a promise to the veterans and a reminder to subsequent generations that the memory of the USS Salt Lake City will be preserved.

|
Although in 1948, the USS Salt Lake City went back to the sea that she so dutifully served, the memory of the old 'Swayback Maru' and her crew lives on. With the utmost respect, reverence, and pride, we the members of the Second Watch do pledge that the memory of the USS Salt Lake City will be preserved: her history, her story, and the comradeship of her crew. May we always strive to stand our watch with the same loyalty to country and devotion to duty exhibited by the First Watch, the shipmates of the USS Salt Lake City.
