Captain Leroy W. Busbey, USN, Skipper of the Salt Lake City

US FLAG Captain Leroy Busbey passed away - Exact date Unknown

Captain Leroy W. Busbey came aboard the SALT LAKE CITY and took over his command on Sat., Sept. 4th. The officers and men welcomed him with the confident feeling that the high quality of our leadership has been sustained. The Swayback can sense a Master and knows that her famed fighting qualities are again under skillful direction.

Captain Busbey comes to us with a long and notable record of service in this man's Navy. He graduated from the Academy in 1917 with the class of 1918. He has served on submarines, destroyers, cruisers, and battleships. He was engineering officer of the NORTHAMPTON and later was executive officer of the ARKANSAS. He has come to us directly from the staff of Vice Admiral Sharp, where he was operations officer of the Atlantic Service Force.

We feel that Captain Busbey is happy to be with us and we assure him in turn of our pride in being under his leadership. For we know that under him the SALT LAKE CITY will continue to be a decisive factor in the successful prosecution of this war.
