Mar. 4th, 1942 [0-4 Hours] Steaming in condition of readiness II in company with TASK FORCE 16.1 [4-8 Hours] Steaming as before. Commenced maneuvering on various courses and speeds to conform to movements of the USS ENTERPRISE in launching planes for attack on MARCUS ISLAND. [8-12 Hours] Steaming as before. Set condition I in AA Battery. Commenced maneuvering incident to conforming to movements of USS ENTERPRISE in conducting air operations. [12-16 16-18 18-20 Hours] Steaming as before. Conformed to movements of USS ENTERPRISE in launching and recovering aircraft. Resumed base course. Mar. 6th, 1942 [-12 Zone] [0-4 Hours] Steaming in condition of readiness II and in battle cruising condition "ZED" in company with TASK GROUPS 16.5 & 16.6 in column as follows: USS NORTHAMPTON, fleet guide; USS ENTERPRISE, and USS SALT LAKE CITY, with destroyers screening, on fleet course and axis, at fleet speed 20 kts. [12-16 Hours] Commenced zigzagging in accordance with plan No. 1. Sighted tanker and destroyer, distance 20 miles. USS SABINE & USS MCCALL joined formation. USS ENTERPRISE assumed position as fleet guide. Mar. 7th, 1942 [plus 12] [0-4 Hours] Steaming in company with TASK FORCE 16. [4-8 Hours] Steaming as before. Went to General Quarters. Secured from General Quarters and set condition of readiness II. [16-18 Hours] Steaming as before. Miller, Arthur L., S1c, USN, received a contusion of the back, while in the First Lieutenants Office, when a large filing cabinet fell over on him due to the ship's rolling. Injury was: Within command; work. Negligence not apparent. Man examined by the Asst. Medical Officer and admitted to the Sick List. Mar. 10th, 1942 [0-4 Hours] Steaming in condition of readiness II in company with TASK FORCE 16. [8-12 Hours] Steaming as before. Commenced maneuvering, standing into Pearl Harbor, TH., Captain, Executive Officer, and navigator on the Bridge. Moored starboard side to port side of USS MEDUSA, in Berth X-7, Pearl Harbor, TH. Set all clocks ahead 1 1/2 hours to plus 9 1/2 Zone Time. The following men, having completed temporary duty, left the ship to assume regular duties on board USS NORTHAMPTON.
