Steaming as before, leaving Moreton Bay. Set condition of Readiness III. USS HENLEY & USS BAGLEY formed anti-submarine screen.

Moored port side to Newstead Wharf, Brisbane, Australia in special anti-submarine condition of readiness.

The above listed men [June 20th], returned on board having completed temporary shore patrol duty.

Ward, R. F., CWT(PA), USN and Kincaid, Robert H., SM2c, USN Deceased are being discharged this date by reason of expiration of enlistment.

The Captain left the ship to pay an official call on COMTASKFORCE 44.

Received 30 gallons ice cream for the General mess.

Made preparations for getting underway.

Moored as before. Pilot O. H. Liley came aboard. Got underway. Pilot at the Conn., Captain, Exec. Officer, & Navigator on the Bridge. Commenced maneuvering to conform to the Channel of Brisbane River, leaving Port. Commenced maneuvering incident to aircraft operations. Recovered aircraft sleeve target, recovered planes.

Steaming as before. Maneuvering incident to approaching anchorge. Anchored in Northwest Channel, Moreton Bay, Brisbane, Australia.

June 23rd, 1942
[0-4 Hours]
Anchored in Northwest channel in Moreton Bay, Brisbane, Australia in the presents of COMTASKFOR 44 in condition of Readiness II. Getting underway with all regular Officers on the Bridge. Maneuvering incident to forming column 600 yards astern USS CHICAGO, as fourth ship in column. Secured both anchors for sea. Maneuvering, following movements of leader in column, conforming to channel, leaving Northwest Channel on various courses at 11 knots. Out of channel, commenced zig-zagging in accordance with Plan #3.

[8-12 Hours]
Steaming as before. In company with USS CHICAGO & two screeing destroyers. C/C to 355 degree (T&PGC) to open out to 16,000 yards from remainder of disposition for ranging and teaching drill. Completed ranging & teaching exercise, resumed station in disposition.

Steaming as before in company of TASK FORCE 44. Daily routines, Drills, etc.

Steaming in Company with TASK FORE 44, fourth ship in column, HMAS AUSTRALIA, Fleet Guide.

[8-12 Hours]
Steaming as before. Commenced manurvering, standing in to Great Roads, Noumea, New Caledonia. Captain at the Conn., Exec. Officer, & Navigator on the Bridge. Anchored in Berth B2, Great Roads, Noumea, New Caledonia.

[12-16 Hours]
Anchored as before.

The following men left the ship on temporary shore patrol duty, with Lt. J.F.B. Johnston in charge.

Underway in the company of TASK FORCE 44. Captain at the Conn., Exec. Officer, & Navigator on the Bridge.

[16-18 Hours]
Steaming as before. Commenced maneuvering to conduct & complete exercises in Approach and Deployment. USS CHICAGO designated Fleet Guide.
